How To Unlock Mobile Phones

Find the owner’s manual.

  1. Look on the manufacturer’s website if you don’t have the manual. You can usually download a PDF of the manual.
  2. Browse the manual for strange key combinations. A very popular one is * [menu] [right] #. There are several others.
  3. Browse the menu to see if there is anything of interest. Sometimes the menus can disable GPS tracking, among other interesting things.
  4. Talk to your local cellular sales representative – some companies are happy to unlock a phone if it’s from one of their rivals.
  5. Check on www.howardforums.com. It’s a great resource with a lot of people who are very knowledgeable. Sometimes there are special tools (such as Motorola’s RSS software for iDen phones) which can unlock phones from a computer. In some cases, you must e-mail a file from your phone received with said software to a hacker, which can unlock the file and send it back to you. After loading the file back onto your phone, the phone is unlocked.
